Established in 1996, they are dedicated to the development and sustainability of small businesses in South Africa.The company is a wholesale finance institution which operates across the public and private sectors, supplying funding to small business ventures. Its primary aim is to bridge the funding gap in the SME market not addressed by commercial financial institutions.
Khula Land Reform Empowerment Facility (LREF) is a Black Economic Empowerment Fund. The fund is administered by Khula. LREF is a wholesale financing facility through which Khula lends money to commercial banks and other agricultural lenders for on-lending to Land Reform beneficiaries.
Financing facilities under LREF
Mortgage Loan Facility – a financing facility which enables the target market to buy and own land for agricultural production purposes.
- maximum loan R10m per project
- maximum loan of R800 000 per black person participating in the project
- loan repayment period not exceeding 20 years
- business venture must be commercially viable
- funding to South African citizens only
- the business venture must be a registered legal entity
Equity Share Scheme – business arrangement in which land reform beneficiaries and private sector partners buy equity in he form of shares in a land-based agricultural enterprise.
